
RedHawks Blow Past Butler, 10-3

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami softball recorded 12 hits and added nine walks in a 10-3 win over Butler University on Wednesday afternoon. Nine different RedHawks posted hits and Madie Patton secured her first career grand slam in the sixth inning.

Miami returns to action on Friday, April 11 for the first of three contests at Ball State. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
How it Happened:
- Madilyn Reeves walked the first two batters of the contest. After a sacrifice bunt, Reeves recorded a strikeout and a line out to third base to shut down the Bulldogs.
- With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Danitza Hernandez drew the fourth walk of the inning to spot Miami an early 1-0 lead. Hernandez added a single in the third to plate Jenna Golembiewski for a 2-0 Miami advantage.
- The Bulldogs opened the fourth inning with runners on second and third with no outs, before Reeves once again pitched out of a jam. After a fielder's choice made it 2-1, the Bulldogs loaded the bases with one out. Reeves recorded the second out of the inning with a strikeout and then the Bulldogs were caught stealing home to end the threat.
- Shelby Kunkel's double to right center brought home Kaylee Oh in the bottom of the fourth and Erin Pinter's single past the third baseman brought home two RedHawks for a 4-1 lead.
- Butler closed the gap in the fifth with a two-out single between three Miami defenders to plate two Bulldogs.
- Kunkel lined a single to centerfield in the bottom of the fifth to bring around Sydney Gilbert for a 5-3 Miami lead.
- Ella Carter singled to left field to score Golembiewski in the sixth to make it 6-3. Two batters later Patton hit a grand slam over the left-center wall for a 10-3 Miami advantage.
Game Notes:
- Mckenna Campbell recorded three walks on the day.
- The Patton grand slam was the first of her career and the four RBI was a career best.
- Kunkel and Hernandez had two RBI apiece.
- Reeves allowed just five hits over five innings of works and Léa Chevrier allowed no hits over two innings of work to pick up the save.
- Miami wore special jerseys on Wednesday to generate awareness for Autism.
