ATHENS, Ohio – The RedHawks defeated Ohio to win their eighth straight conference series on Sunday edging out the Bobcats 6-5.
Dillon Baker added to his series accolades during the game, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs. The RedHawks move to 24-19 (18-6 MAC) with the win while the Bobcats fall to 10-32 (5-16 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Baker gave Miami their first runs of the game in the top of the second, putting the RedHawks up 3-0 on a three-run home run. Drew Phillips reached first on an error and Blake Buzzeo walked to set up the blast.
- Ohio answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, capitalizing two hits to make it 3-2.
- David Novak singled in the top of the third. Ty Batusich walked and Buzzeo doubled to extend the lead to 4-2.
- The Bobcats took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Three hits and a sac fly pulled them ahead 5-4.
- The RedHawks took the lead in the top of the eighth. Buzzeo led off with a walk and Baker singled. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and an HBP loaded the bases. A wild pitch scored one run and a go-ahead sac fly by Anthony Zarlingo scored another to cap off a 6-5 final score.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Baker went 2-for-5 with two hits and three RBIs.
- Zarlingo went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Novak went 2-for-4 with one run.
- Kaden Pfeffer pitched 5.1 innings, holding the Bobcats to one hit and no runs.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will play a stand-alone road game against Xavier on Wednesday at 3 p.m. They will begin a three-game series at Samford starting on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
