CINCINNATI, Ohio – Miami defeated Xavier 10-8 Wednesday after recording 12 hits and nine walks.
Dillon Baker had three RBIs and two runs during the game alongside two walks. The RedHawks move to 25-19 with the win while the Musketeers fall to 27-20.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks let up one run in the bottom of the first after Xavier reached on catcher's interference and singled twice.
- Miami tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third. Blake Buzzeo singled and Baker hit a ground rule double, giving Miami two runners in scoring position. A wild pitch gave Miami its first run of the game.
- Xavier reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs on four hits and a walk.
- Ryan Novak led off the fourth inning for the Redhawks. He stepped up to the plate and crushed a homer to right center on an empty count to limit the deficit to 4-2.
- Miami put together a five-run inning in the top of the sixth, reclaiming the lead at 7-4. Ty Batusich and Keenan Proctor each singled and Buzzeo walked to load the bases with RedHawks. The next three batters all walked, scoring one run each. Evan Appelwick delivered a two-RBI single to cap off the rally.
- The Musketeers tied the ballgame again, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a solo home run.
- Batusich singled in the top of the eighth and Baker hit his 11th homer of the season, a go-ahead home run that made it 9-7.
- Anthony Zarlingo led off the eighth with the RedHawks' third home run of the day to stretch the lead to 10-7.
- Xavier put up one run in the bottom of the eighth on two hits.
- Austin Berggren went three up, three down in the bottom of the ninth to cap off a 10-8 win.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Baker went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs.
- Batusich went 2-for-5 with two runs.
- Buzzeo went 2-for-4 with two runs.
