OXFORD, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon the Miami University softball team took down Northern Kentucky University 8-0 in six innings. On the mound
Madilyn Reeves kept the Norse quiet with just two hits. Offensively,
Ella Carter racked up six RBI to help defeat NKU. The Norse drop to 7-12 on the season. The RedHawks improve to 8-14.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Reeves got to work on the mound quickly in the top of the first, retiring the side with just six pitches.
- In the bottom of the second, Carter sent a three-run home run over right-center field to also score Erin Pinter and Holly Merritt, taking a 3-0 lead for the RedHawks.
- Chloe Parks drove Jenna Golembiewski home in the bottom of the third with a RBI single to up the RedHawk lead to 4-0.
- With a double to the left field wall in the bottom of the sixth, Carter cleared the bases, sending Pinter, Merritt, and Sydney Gilbert home, to extend the Red and White's advantage to 7-0.
- Danitza Hernandez walked it off in the bottom of the sixth with a single to center that pushed Carter across the plate to make it a 8-0 final.
NOTES:
- Carter notched six RBI and went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Golembiewski, Parks, and Merritt also went 2-for-3.
- Pinter, Carter, and Merritt each scored two runs.
- Reeves went the complete game in the circle, needing only 74 pitches to claim the shutout. She struck out six and allowed just two hits.
- The RedHawks out-hit the Norse 11-2.
