RedHawks Fall to No. 4 Broncos in Season Finale

OXFORD, Ohio– The Miami University hockey team dropped its season finale to No. 4/5 Western Michigan by a score of 5-2 Saturday night at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena.

Max Dukovac and Matt Choupani scored for the Red and White, while Grant Slukynsky led WMU (26-7-1, 19-4-1) with two goals. Miami finishes the season with a record of 3-28-3 (0-23-1 NCHC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 2:58 1st (Miami 1-0) | Dukovac staked the RedHawks to an early lead with a power-play goal less than three minutes in. After Colby Ambrosio's shot attempt was blocked, Casper Nassen recovered the puck and sent a diagonal pass to Dukovac for a one-timer to make it 1-0.
  • 14:26 1st (WMU 1-1) | The visitors answered back with a goal on their second power play of the opening period. Tim Washe wasn't able to connect cleanly on a centering feed from Zach Nehring below the goal line, but the puck got through for Slukynsky to knock home the equalizer.
  • 08:42 2nd (WMU 2-1) | Slukynsky scored a 4-on-4 goal to grab a 2-1 lead for the Broncos. Brian Kramer had the puck along the boards before making the pass to Robby Drazner at the top of the WMU offensive zone. Drazner found Slukynsky in front of the net to finish it.
  • 10:37 2nd (WMU 3-1) | Nehring extended the lead to 3-1 less than two minutes later. His shot was ruled a goal after video review, converting assists from Liam Valente and Kramer.
  • 19:31 2nd (WMU 4-1) | Ty Henricks scored in the final minute of the middle stanza to give the visitors a 4-1 lead. Drazner knocked the puck forward to start a 2-on-2 break, with Garrett Szydlowski relaying it to Henricks. Henricks outraced a defender and scored with the backhand past Brett Miller
  • 12:10 3rd (WMU 5-1) | Cam Knuble tipped the puck in off an errant pass to extend the Bronco advantage to 5-1.
  • 12:56 3rd (Miami 5-2) | Choupani shoved the puck in the net just seconds later to make it a 5-2 game. Johnny Waldron weaved around defenders before laying off a pass to Choupani in front. Zane Demsey got the play started by sending the puck past the blue line to Waldron.
