(RV) Miami Opens Conference Play Against New NCHC Foe St. Thomas

(RV) Miami brings a five-game win streak into conference play and a highly-anticipated series against new NCHC member St. Thomas. The RedHawks are 5-1-0 after a sweep of Alaska Anchorage, prevailing 5-1 last Friday and then 3-2 in overtime Saturday. The Tommies are 1-3-0 and were swept at Minnesota State last week by scores of 3-1 and 2-0. St. Thomas is led by head coach Rico Blasi, who not only played for Miami (1990-94), but served as head coach at Miami for 20 seasons (1999-2019). Blasi led the RedHawks to the NCAA Tournament 10 times, including two Frozen Fours, and won 398 games with the Red and White. The five-time CCHA Coach of the Year was named National Coach of the Year in 2005-06. Miami's Anthony Noreen has said he considers himself part of the Blasi coaching tree after getting his start in coaching at UWSP under former RedHawk graduate assistant Will Nichol.

This weekend's games at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena are set for Friday, Oct. 30 at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. The contests will be broadcast live on NCHC.tv, with RESN picking up Saturday's game live and airing Friday's game on tape-delay the next afternoon. Greg Waddell (play-by-play), Drew Davis (analyst) and Grace Garrity (rinkside) have the call, and audio coverage will stream both nights on MiamiRedHawks.com.

Matteo Giampa (2-6-8) and David Deputy (1-7-8) each have eight points to lead the Red and White. Ilia Morozov (5-0-5) has a team-high five goals. Matteo Drobac is 4-1-0 between the pipes for the RedHawks with a .932 season save percentage and a 1.40 GAA and has won four-straight starts.

Noreen and freshman forward Layne Loomer met with the media this week to preview Miami's games against the Tommies.
