
RedHawks Fall to Eagles in 19-12 Slugfest

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami opened up the first inning with three runs. Anthony Zarlingo led off with a walk and Ty Batusich followed with a two-run homer. Ryan Novak walked and Dominic Krupinski singled. Tommy Harrison drove Novak home with a single through to right.
- EMU bounced back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning off five hits to take a 4-3 lead.
- The Eagles put together a nine-run rally in the top of the second that included a three-run homer and multiple walks and HBPs.
- Miami put up two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 13-5. Harrison walked and Roa doubled to send him home. A single by David Novak drove in Roa.
- A solo home run ball added one more for the Eagles in the bottom of the fourth.
- Krupinski and Harrison each singled to lead off the fifth. Roa reached on an error to score Krupinski and Blake Buzzeo reached on a fielder's choice to score Harrison, bringing the score to 14-7.
- EMU scored one more run on an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.
- Roa batted in the only run of the sixth inning with a single to left field after Miami amassed a walk and two HBPs.
- EMU scored two runs on a double after an error and a walk put two runners on base. This made the score 17-8.
- The RedHawks managed four runs in the top of the eighth. Roa led off with a walk and Buzzeo doubled to left center to put Roa on third. Zarlingo scored both runners with a single to left center. Batusich reached on a fielder's choice and David Novak doubled, forcing a pitching change for the Eagles. Evan Appelwick singled to right, scoring Batusich, and Ryan Novak hit a sacrifice groundout to score David Novak and pull Miami within five, 17-12.
- The Eagles answered with two runs of their own on two RBI singles, making it a seven-run game.
- Miami loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but stranded all three runners and was unable to score.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- Zarlingo went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run.
- Krupinski went 2-for-4 with a run.
- Harrison went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.
- Roa went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs.
UP NEXT:
The RedHawks will face the Butler Bulldogs in Oxford on Wednesday, March 26, for a single-game series starting at 3 p.m. They will resume conference play on Friday, March 28 with a three-game series against Western Michigan.
