RedHawks Fall 10-7 to Marshall

OXFORD, Ohio – On Tuesday evening the Miami University softball team fell 10-7 to Marshall University, despite a late comeback attempt led by Jenna Golembiewski's grand slam. The RedHawks move to 12-15 on the season (3-0 MAC). Marshall moves to 15-13 (2-1 SBC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Marshall jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a solo home run over right field.
- In the bottom of the first, Golembiewski tied the game up 1-1 with a no-doubt solo homer.
- A RBI single for the Thundering Herd in the top of the second pushed two more runs across the plate and gave Marshall a 3-1 lead.
- Still in the second, a bunt brought another runner home for Marshall, increasing their lead to 4-1.
- A sac fly and subsequent error in that same inning scored two more runs for the Thundering Herd, pushing the deficit to 6-1.
- A three-run home run from Marshall in the top of the third made it a 9-1 advantage for the Thundering Herd.
- Mckenna Campbell hit a solo homer over center field in the bottom of the third to cut the difference to 9-2.
- In the top of the fifth the Thundering Herd extended their lead to 10-2 with a solo home run.
- Madie Patton homered in the bottom of the fifth to cut the difference to 10-3.
- Golembiewski hit her second homer of the game in the form of a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh. Shelby Kunkel, Campbell, and Patton also scored, making it a 10-7 game.
- However, the RedHawks could not come back from the deficit, giving Marshall the 10-7 win.
NOTES:
- Golembiewski hit her 10th (and 11th) homer of the season. She had 5 RBI in the game.
- Patton and Golembiewski went 2-for-3 at the plate. Ella Carter went 2-for-4.
- Three RedHawks had home runs. All RedHawk runs scored were a result of homers.
- Madilyn Reeves went 4.2 innings on the mound, striking out eight. She allowed just two hits and one run.
- Léa Chevrier went 1.1 innings on the bump, striking out one.
- Shelbie Krieger started the game in the circle.
