OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University volleyball team (16-13, 10-7 MAC) took down Eastern Michigan (12-18, 4-13 MAC) in a four-set match (31-29, 23-25, 33-31, 25-23) on Friday night at Millett Hall to clinch its first appearance in the MAC Tournament since the 2020 season. HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Three early service aces propelled Miami to a 6-2 lead in the first set. A few attack errors from the Eagles stretched Miami's lead to 10-4 and forced an Eastern Michigan timeout. Williams and Creech combined for four kills to help Miami stay ahead 20-17. The Eagles found a way to even the score at 24-24 and claimed their first lead of the set at 25-24. Trailing 29-28, Kamryn Utley found Anna McClure soaring through the air for a massive kill that tied the score at 29 apiece. - Eastern Michigan got off to a 5-1 start in the second set. Miami answered by scoring five straight points to take its first lead at 6-5. A solo block from Lantz and a service ace from McClure pushed the RedHawk lead to 9-6. With the score tied at 16-16, a bad set from the Eagles and a pair of kills from Warrick gave the RedHawks a 19-17 lead. The Eagles eventually regained the lead at 21-20 and held off the RedHawks to take the second set 25-23.
- Lauren Coyne, Creech and Lantz totaled six kills in the beginning of the third set to help push Miami ahead 8-6. A block and service ace from Creech, as well as a kill from Williams, kept the RedHawks on top 11-8. A pair of solo blocks from Warrick and Lantz kept the momentum on Miami's side at 17-14. A kill from Williams and another service ace from McClure put the score at 24-21 in favor of the RedHawks. Eastern Michigan went on to tie things up at 25-25. After some back-and-forth, Eastern Michigan looked to close the set out at 30-29 when McClure smacked her second kill of the match to even the score once again. Miami edged past the Eagles 33-31 thanks to Warrick's second solo block of the set and two attack errors from Eastern Michigan.
- A Radaszewski kill, three kills from Warrick and an Utley service ace put Miami in front 5-3 in the fourth set. The Eagles battled to come within one point at 10-9.
