RedHawks Host EMU to Conclude MAC Play This Weekend

THIS WEEKEND: The Red and White conclude conference play by hosting Eastern Michigan for a pair of weekend matches, as the RedHawks face the Eagles this Friday, Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. With one win over the weekend, the Red and White will officially secure a spot in the MAC Tournament. The RedHawks will wear new special-edition Cradle of Coaches-themed uniforms on Friday. The custom-designed Cradle of Coaches-inspired uniforms feature distinct branding elements that pay tribute to the storied heritage of the Cradle of Coaches. Saturday will be senior day, where six different RedHawks will be honored following the match.
ABOUT EASTERN MICHIGAN: Eastern Michigan went 13-19 and held a 7-11 record in the MAC in 2024. The Eagles are 12-17 (4-12 MAC) heading into the final weekend of conference play, as they are currently on a four-match losing streak. Eastern Michigan was chosen to finish eighth in the 2025 MAC Volleyball Coaches Poll. Sophomore middle blocker Hatteras Welker was named to the 2025 Preseason All-MAC Team.Â
Heading into this week's matches, Eastern Michigan has numerous players who rank among the top of the MAC statistically. Welker holds the third spot in blocks per set (1.18) and the sixth spot in service aces per set (0.37). Ava Siefke ranks sixth in the MAC in kills per set (3.31) and points per set (3.88). Surabhi Srinivasan stands at seventh in digs per set (3.61), and Ashlynn Belcher ranks eighth in assists per set (7.86).Â
SERIES WITH THE EAGLES: The Red and White are 46-41 all-time when taking on the Eagles. Eastern Michigan is currently on a six-match win streak versus Miami. The RedHawks last defeated the Eagles 3-1 in Ypsilanti on Oct. 14, 2021.
TELEVISION: Each match that the RedHawks play in this weekend can be watched on ESPN+.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks are looking to make their first appearance in the MAC Tournament since the 2020 season. In order for the RedHawks to not make the tournament, they would have to lose their final two matches, Akron would need to win their final two matches and Bowling Green would need to win their final two matches.
NUMBERS WATCH: Gentry Warrick is currently fourth all-time in Miami history with 1.03 career blocks per set. She holds a total of 87 career solo blocks (fifth all-time in Miami history). Warrick also ranks third in the nation in total blocks (145) and 29th in blocks per set (1.37). Warrick currently leads the MAC in both total blocks and blocks per set. The Red and White stand at eighth in the country in team total blocks (266.5) as well.Â
MAC SETTER PAIR OF THE WEEK: Miami University volleyball senior setter Hayden Hicks and sophomore setter Kamryn Utley were named the Mid-American Conference Setter Pair of the Week following their performances last week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. Hicks and Utley combined for 111 assists (6.17 assists/set), helping Miami to 138 kills (15.33/set) over a pair of wins at Central Michigan. Hicks tallied 56 assists (6.22/set), 14 digs (1.56/set), two kills (0.22/set) and one service ace (0.11/set). Utley totaled 55 assists (6.11/set), 10 digs (1.11/set) and five service aces (0.56/set). This is the third MAC weekly award for the RedHawks.
RECENT ACTION: The RedHawks are coming off of a 2-0 week, as they most recently swept Central Michigan over the weekend to extend their win streak to four in a row. Offensively, Lauren Coyne recorded 4.00 kills per set while maintaining a .431 hitting percentage to lead the RedHawks over the Central Michigan Chippewas. In total, the freshman opposite hitter had 36 kills and added an assist offensively. She also had six total blocks and three digs on defense. Coyne led the RedHawks with a career-high 18 kills (.515 hit percentage) in a five-set win over Central Michigan on Friday night and duplicated this performance with another 18 kills (.344 hit percentage) in a four-set victory over the Chippewas on Saturday. Defensively, freshman Molly Creech totaled 34 digs (3.78 digs/set), knocked down five total blocks (0.56/set) and went 68-for-69 (.986) in serve receive over two victories at Central Michigan. Creech also added 29 kills, two assists and a service ace over the weekend. On Friday her defensive performance helped lead the RedHawks over the Chippewas, as she had 23 digs and four blocks. In addition, senior Lindsay Kahren surpassed 1,000 career digs against Kent State on Oct. 16, while senior Hayden Hicks also reached a career milestone of 2,000 assists against the Ball State Cardinals on Oct. 7.Â
