RedHawks Dominate SFU in 5-0 Shutout

OXFORD, Ohio – Five goals from the Miami University field hockey team, including four in the first half, gave the RedHawks a decisive 5-0 win over Saint Francis University on Sunday afternoon. The RedHawks improve to 2-0 on the season and the Red Flash drop to 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Just over a minute into the first quarter, Reese Wearren put the RedHawks up 1-0, tipping a high shot from Henriette Schlueter into the goal.
- Claudia Negrete Garcia made it a 2-0 game, taking the ball all the way into the striking circle just under the ten minute mark, and finishing the play off with a shot on the far goal corner.
- The first quarter of play ended with the RedHawks out to a commanding 2-0 lead.
- Wearren tipped in her second goal of the game just under two minutes into the second quarter. Etti Schlueter brought the ball into the circle before passing it off to Wearren to make the goal.
- With just over three minutes remaining in the half, Izzy Hass passed the ball to a perfectly placed Paula Peña Martinez at the top of the circle, who put the RedHawks' fourth goal in net and upped the lead to 4-0.
- At the half, Miami held a 4-0 lead over the Red Flash. This held through the third quarter well.
- During a penalty corner with under five minutes remaining in the match, Negrete Garcia scored her second goal of the game, off assists from Schlueter and Paula Navarro, pushing the deficit to 5-0.
- The RedHawks took the game 5-0.
