KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Miami fell in both games of Saturday's doubleheader against the Western Michigan Broncos after offensive struggles in game one and defensive struggles in game two. In game one, Western Michigan won 3-0, and the Broncos took game two 8-5. Miami falls to 14-18 (8-9 MAC) with the losses, while Western Michigan moves to 18-13 (10-4 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- WMU's Jackson Kitchen homered in the fourth inning to go ahead 1-0. The Broncos then turned a walk, a double and an RBI lineout into a 3-0 lead, which marked the game's only scoring.
- Miami was held to four hits. They had one in each of the first, second, third and seventh innings.
MIAMI GAME NOTES (GAME ONE):
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- The Broncos scored four runs in the bottom of the third, three of which came off of home runs.
- Western Michigan pulled ahead 7-0 in the fifth after a solo shot from Cade Sullivan and three additional hits.
- Miami rallied in the sixth, starting with a walk from Tyler Gordon. Ty Butusich then singled up the middle, and Gordon came home on a single by Ryland Zaborowski.
- Appelwick singled through to left, loading the bases for Miami. Dillon Baker came up with an RBI lineout to score Batusich.
- Zach MacDonald capitalized with a three-run blast to center field that marked Miami's fifth run of the inning and made it a 7-5 game.
- WMU put up an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh which capped off an 8-5 win.
MIAMI GAME NOTES (GAME TWO):
- Appelwick went 2-for-4 with one run.
