Miami Sweeps Buffalo to Stay Unbeaten in MAC

BUFFALO, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, the Miami University softball team downed the University of Buffalo 8-5 in the first game of a doubleheader. The bat of Sami Bewick was a key part of the RedHawks' success in game one. In game two, the RedHawks shut out the Bulls 12-0 in five innings. Miami moves to 26-6 on the season and 9-0 in the Mid-American Conference with the sweep. Buffalo falls to 11-18 overall and 3-5 in the MAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- In the top of the second, Bewick hit a two-run homer that also scored Holly Blaska to put the RedHawks up 2-0.
- A RBI double from Buffalo in the bottom of the second halved the lead to 2-1.
- In the top of the fourth, a RBI single from Bewick scored Karli Spaid and an error later scored Bewick to push the lead to 5-1.
- The Bulls evened the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI single and a two-run homer.
- A single from Bewick in the top of the seventh scored Holly Blaska to give Miami a one-run lead at 6-5.
- Reagan Bartholomew singled later that same inning to allow Kate Kobayashi to cross the plate. Bewick later scored on a single from Allie Cummins to extend the lead to 8-5.
- The Red and White held on to take the game 8-5 and secure the series win.
NOTES:
- Bewick went 3-for-3 at the plate and Blaska went 2-for-3.
- Bewick drove in a career-high five runs.
- The RedHawks had 11 hits in the game and manufactured four walks.
- Madilyn Reeves went 3.1 innings in the circle, striking out three and allowing just four hits.
- Ashley Hitchcock closed out the game on the bump, going 3.2 innings, also striking out three and allowing just four hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- A three-run homer from Blaska that also scored Cummins and Jenna Golembiewski put Miami ahead 3-0 in the top of the first.
- Golembiewski hit a two-run homer that also scored Hadley Parisien in the top of the second to push the lead to 5-0.
- A RBI double from Blaska, a RBI single from Kobayashi, and an error scored Spaid, Blaska, and Kobayashi, respectively, to up Miami's second-inning advantage to 8-0.
- Golembiewski hit another homer, this time in the top of the third, also scoring Cummins and Parisien. Spaid followed that up with a homer of her own to extend the margin to 12-0.
- The RedHawks held this lead through five innings to take the game 12-0.
NOTES:
- Cummins and Blaska went 3-for-4 at the plate. Parisien went 2-for-2.
- Golembiewski had five RBI and Blaska had four.
- Miami had seven extra-base hits, including four homers; Golembiewski had two homers.
- Golembiewski and Spaid now share the national lead for home runs with 22 apiece this season.
- Reeves went 4.0 innings in the circle, allowing just two hits and striking out three.
- Marah Donahoe made her collegiate debut in the circle to close out the game.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will be back in action to face Bowling Green State University on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for a doubleheader in Oxford, Ohio.
