RedHawks Defeat Chips 15-6 in Game Two

OXFORD, Ohio— Miami took down Central Michigan Saturday in convincing fashion, outscoring them 15-6 during the contest. The win was highlighted by Zach MacDonald's two home runs, including a 443 foot shot to center field. Miami improves to 7-9 with the victory (2-3 MAC), while Central Michigan falls to 3-16 (0-5 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A single and a pair of walks loaded the bases for Central Michigan with zero outs in the top of the second inning. Three runs came in on a walk, fielder's choice and sac fly, putting the Chips ahead 3-0.
  • Tyler Gordon hit a triple all the way to the left field corner in the bottom of the third. He scored on a groundout by Ty BatusichZach MacDonald then hit his fifth home run of the season, crushing a ball over the left center wall and making the score 3-2.
  • Central Michigan scored again on a walk and a single to extend their lead to 4-2.
  • Central Michigan's Danny Wuestenfeld hit a 397 foot home run in the top of the fifth to make the score 5-2.
  • Anthony Zarlingo hit a leadoff triple to the right center wall in the sixth. Dillon Baker sent him home with a single to make the score 5-3. Gordon then singled to put runners at the corners.
  • Batusich hit an RBI single to left center to score Baker and advance Gordon. Gordon then scored on a fielder's choice that handed Batusich an out but allowed MacDonald to reach first and tied the game at five runs apiece.
  • David Novak walked to start the bottom of the seventh. Zarlingo then beat the tag to record a single. Pinch hitter Tré Keels doubled down the left field line, scoring Novak and putting Zarlingo at third to give Miami their first lead of the game at 6-5.
  • Gordon hit a sacrifice bunt to give Miami an insurance run and make the score 7-5 RedHawks.
  • Batusich continued the rally for Miami, hitting a fly ball single into left field and sending Keels to home plate. MacDonald sent Batusich in to score on a double that went all the way to the wall. This made the score 9-5.
  • Zaborowski followed suit with another RBI single. Ryan Novak hit yet another single over the first baseman's head to put Zaborowski on third. David Novak then reached on an error that scored Zaborowski and capped off the six-run inning with Miami ahead 11-5.
  • The Chippewas tacked on one more run in the eighth to make the score 11-6.
  • Baker and Keels each hit a single to start the eighth for Miami. Gordon followed with a sac bunt to advance both runners. Batusich then cleared the bases with a single, adding two to Miami's score and giving them a 13-6 lead.
  • MacDonald crushed a 443 footer over the centerfield wall to tack on two more and finalize a 15-6 score.
