Oxford, Ohio— The RedHawks dropped the sweep opportunity against Central Michigan Sunday in a 5-2 loss. Miami falls to 7-10 with the loss (2-4 MAC) and Central Michigan moves to 4-16 (1-5 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Chippewas extended their lead in the fourth with a series of hits that led to two runs and pushed the score to 3-0.
  • Central Michigan struck yet again in the sixth adding one more run for a score of 4-0.
  • One more run was added by the Chips on a wild pitch in the eighth.
  • David Novak singled to right field in the eighth and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Pinch hitter Evan Appelwick then walked and a sac fly from Justin Gorski advanced both runners. Ty Batusich grounded out but scored Novak to put Miami on the board.
  • MacDonald tripled to center field to score Appelwick, cutting Miami's deficit to three heading into the ninth.
  • With the fans on their feet distracting the pitcher for Central Michigan, Ryan Novak walked to lead off the ninth and Anthony Zarlingo took an HBP. David Novak walked to load the bases with one out. However, Miami's rally attempt was cut short, capping off the 5-2 loss.
