RedHawks Get 7-6 Walk-Off Win Over UConn

CLEMSON, S.C. – On Sunday morning, the Miami University softball team downed the University of Connecticut 7-6 in a walk-off victory. Four home runs from the RedHawk offense helped the Red and White to the victory. The loss drops Connecticut to 4-11 on the season and brings Miami to 9-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the bottom of the first, Karli Spaid knocked a home run over right field that also drove in Allie Cummins and set the RedHawks ahead 2-0.
  • A RBI single from Spaid in the bottom of the second brought in Kate Kobayashi and pushed the lead to 3-0.
  • Sami Bewick hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third that further extended Miami's lead to 4-0.
  • In the top of the fourth, the Huskies responded with a two-run homer to split the lead at 4-2.
  • Cummins smashed a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to put the RedHawks ahead 5-2.
  • A two-RBI double and sacrifice groundout from the Huskies in the top of the fifth tied the game at 5-5.
  • Connecticut took the lead in the top of the sixth on an RBI single, making it a 6-5 game.
  • Kobayashi tied the game up at 6-6 for the RedHawks in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run over left field.
  • Jenna Golembiewski crossed the plate on a single from Holly Blaska in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off for the RedHawks at 7-6.
 
NOTES:
  • Cummins, Spaid, Bewick, and Kobayashi hit home runs.
  • Spaid had three RBI in the game and went 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Addy Jarvis went five innings in the circle, striking out six.
  • Ashley Hitchcock finished the last two innings on the rubber, allowing only three hits and securing the win.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks will face defending national champion No. 1 Oklahoma Friday, March 1 at 2 p.m. in Norman, Okla.
