OMAHA, Neb.– The Miami University hockey team fell to Omaha 8-1 Saturday night at Baxter Arena. Blake Mesenburg lit the lamp for the RedHawks, who drop to 3-11-2, 0-6-0 NCHC. Sam Stange scored two goals to lead the Mavericks (5-7-0, 3-3-0 NCHC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

9:30 1st (Omaha 1-0) | Charlie Lurie opened the scoring for the Mavericks with a power-play goal midway through the first period. After an extended time of possession in the RedHawks' zone, Lurie took a pass from Dylan Gratton, used his skate to knock the puck toward his stick, and fired a shot that found the back of the net. Brock Bremer had the secondary assist on the play.
12:17 1st (Omaha 2-0) | Stange doubled UNO's lead three minutes later, holding the puck in along the left boards after an attempted clearing attempt and finishing the play himself to put Omaha up 2-0.
18:56 1st (Omaha 3-0) | Late in the first period, Omaha added another power-play goal, as Tyler Rollwagen redirected a Griffin Ludtke shot in front. Jacob Guevin started the play with a pass from the point that set up Ludtke's blast from the wing.
5:27 2nd (Omaha 4-0) | A series of passes down the left side freed up Chase LaPinta behind the Miami defense on a dish from Cam Mitchell. LaPinta's backdoor pass set up Stange for a one-timer to make it 4-0.
7:21 2nd (Omaha 5-0) | Miami finally went on the power play more than six minutes into the second period, but Mitchell eventually retrieved a puck near his own blue line and scored on a shorthanded breakaway to stretch the Mavs' advantage.
8:38 2nd (Omaha 6-0) | As the RedHawks' power play expired, Omaha capitalized on a faceoff win to start a break the other way. Myles Hilman won a footrace down the right side and scored off an assist from Jimmy Glynn.
14:26 2nd (Miami 6-1) | The Red and White got on the board after a give-and-go between Michael Feenstra and Matt Choupani moved the puck quickly down the ice. Feenstra took a return feed and dropped it off behind him for Mesenburg, who collected Miami's first goal of the weekend.
19:59.2 2nd (Omaha 7-1) | UNO beat the buzzer with a power-play goal from Glynn in the final second of the middle period to take a 7-1 lead to the locker room. Rollwagen sent the puck across for Ludtke, and Glynn tipped home the ensuing shot from the top of the crease.
9:37 3rd (Omaha 8-1) | Near the midway point of the third period, a Miami pass attempt deflected off the back of the cage for Brady Risk to pick up and slide to Harrison Israels. Israels converted the one-timer in front of the net for Omaha's final goal.

NOTES

Choupani took over the team lead with his 12th point of the year.
Mesenburg matched his career high with three shots on goal and scored his fourth goal of the season.
Ethan Dahlmeir made 19 saves in net, while Bruno Bruveris came on in relief and stopped 16 shots.
The all-time series between Miami and UNO is deadlocked 29-29-7.
