RedHawks Down UMES 88-70

OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University men's basketball team rolled to an 88-70 victory over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Tuesday night in its second home game of the season. Eian Elmer led Miami (2-1) with a career-high 24 points, and Kam Craft added an additional 18 points. Ketron Shaw led the UMES (1-3) offensively with 27 points.
 
How it Happened:
  • Miami opened the contest on a 12-3 run, helped by a pair of triples from Elmer. Luke Skaljac stretched Miami's advantage to 20-11 with two three-pointers as Miami connected on 8-of-9 from the floor to begin Tuesday's action.
  • UMES answered with a 14-7 run over a five-minute span, cutting Miami's lead to 27-25 with 7:50 left in the half. Miami maintained its two-point lead, 35-33, with 3:56 to play before Craft knocked in a three -pointer to push the lead to five. UMES made it a one-point game, 38-37 with two minutes left in the half, but jumpers from Kraft and Jackson Kotecki once again gave Miami a five-point advantage. The RedHawks led 42-38 at the half.
  • UMES took their first lead of the game, 45-44, after knocking in a triple 90 seconds into the second half. The RedHawks responded with a 12-4 run, capped by back-to-back three pointers from Peter Suder and Skaljac to give Miami a 56-49 lead with 14 minutes left in the contest.
  • With 8:41 to play, UMES reclaimed the lead at 66-65. The Red and White responded by outscoring Maryland Eastern Shore 17-2 to jump ahead 82-68 with 1:58 on the game clock. Elmer fueled this offensive explosion from Miami with 13 points, knocking down a trio of threes to spark the run. The RedHawks closed out the night by securing their first home win, 88-70 (largest lead of the game).

Game Notes:
  • Miami shot 15-32 (46.9%) from the three-point line (most made threes since Feb. 24, 2024 against Central Michigan).
  • The RedHawks outrebounded UMES 37-22.
  • Miami recorded 18 second chance points, in comparison to 12 second chance points from UMES.
  • Elmer posted the most threes (five) of his career.
  • Mekhi Cooper led the RedHawks with five assists (tied for the most of the game).
