RedHawks Fall to Spartans 2-1 in Double Overtime

EAST LANSING, Mich. – After a double overtime battle on Tuesday afternoon, the Miami University field hockey team fell to Michigan State University 2-1. The RedHawks move to 5-6 on the season (2-1 Mid-American Conference), and Michigan State moves to 6-4 (0-2 Big Ten).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UP NEXT: The RedHawks return home to Oxford, Ohio on Sunday, Oct. 6 to take on Ohio University at 1 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game remained scoreless through the end of the first quarter.
- Despite both Miami and Michigan State earning a penalty corner in the second quarter, neither was able to capitalize and the game moved into the second half still tied 0-0.
- Just under a minute into the third quarter, Henriette Schlueter scored during a penalty corner, having tipped Claudia Negrete Garcia's shot off of Schlueter's own insert to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.
- The RedHawks held this 1-0 lead through the end of the quarter.
- Less than four minutes into the final quarter, the Spartans evened the score 1-1.
- The tied score remained through the conclusion of regulation, sending the game into overtime.
- The RedHawks battled through the first overtime period and through nearly eight minutes of the second overtime period before ultimately succumbing to the Spartan offense, falling 2-1.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks return home to Oxford, Ohio on Sunday, Oct. 6 to take on Ohio University at 1 p.m.
