RedHawks Fall to Spartans 2-1 in Double Overtime

EAST LANSING, Mich. – After a double overtime battle on Tuesday afternoon, the Miami University field hockey team fell to Michigan State University 2-1. The RedHawks move to 5-6 on the season (2-1 Mid-American Conference), and Michigan State moves to 6-4 (0-2 Big Ten).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game remained scoreless through the end of the first quarter.
Despite both Miami and Michigan State earning a penalty corner in the second quarter, neither was able to capitalize and the game moved into the second half still tied 0-0.
Just under a minute into the third quarter, Henriette Schlueter scored during a penalty corner, having tipped Claudia Negrete Garcia's shot off of Schlueter's own insert to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.
The RedHawks held this 1-0 lead through the end of the quarter.
Less than four minutes into the final quarter, the Spartans evened the score 1-1.
The tied score remained through the conclusion of regulation, sending the game into overtime.
The RedHawks battled through the first overtime period and through nearly eight minutes of the second overtime period before ultimately succumbing to the Spartan offense, falling 2-1.
