Four Goals in Four Minutes Lift Miami Past Longwood, 7-0

FARMVILLE, Va. – Miami opened MAC play Thursday with a decisive 7-0 victory over Longwood on the road. Miami's scoring run started in the second quarter with a spurt of four goals in less than four minutes. The RedHawks improve to 3-3 (1-0 MAC) with the win while Longwood falls to 0-6 (0-1 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami's offense went on the attack in the first quarter, generating five penalty corners and 11 shots. The Longwood defense held strong to stop each of Miami's attempts.
- Longwood continued to fend off Miami in the second quarter, stopping seven shots and a penalty corner.
- With six minutes left in the half, the RedHawks broke through. Toto Scarlatti threaded a pass through the defensive line to Bet Gifra, who fired from the circle to put Miami up 1-0.
- Just four seconds later, Sloane Wearren fired a quick shot into the back of the net, doubling the lead to 2-0.
- Less than a minute after the second goal, the RedHawks generated a penalty corner and Maxi Aguirregomezcorta scored off an insert by Kylie Coughlin and a set from Julia Fernandez.
- Justina Intzes scored her first goal of the season two minutes later after reading and intercepting Longwood's pass and firing off a goal unopposed.
- Early in the third quarter, Malena Sabez took a penalty stroke and scored her first goal of the season to extend the lead to 5-0.
- Gifra notched her second goal of the contest in the fourth quarter, scoring unassisted from the middle of the circle.
- After inserting on a penalty corner, Kylie Coughlin picked up the rebound and scored in the final minutes of play to cap off a 7-0 final score.
