Sabez Named MAC Offensive Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio– Miami's Malena Sabez was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 14 after leading the RedHawks to a 2-0 week on both sides of the ball. Miami's victories included a 7-0 win over Longwood to open MAC play and a 5-4 comeback victory over the ranked Liberty Flames in overtime. Against Liberty, she generated five shots on goal, which resulted in a hat trick that included the game-tying goal and the game-winning goal. Additionally, she was critical to the defensive front, helping hold Liberty to just two penalty corners and 13 shots all game. She also had a penalty stroke goal against Longwood.
The sophomore midfielder's four-goal performance this weekend brings her to five goals on the season. She also has 11 points this season and has taken 30 shots.
Sabez and the RedHawks will return to action at home this Friday with a 1 p.m. game vs James Madison.
