THIS WEEKEND: The RedHawks stay on the road for the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational Sept. 15-16. Miami takes on SIUE (Friday, Sept. 15), Purdue Fort Wayne (Friday, Sept. 15) and Valparaiso (Saturday, Sept. 16).
ABOUT SIUE & SERIES WITH THE COUGARS: SIUEÂ finished 13-17 (8-10 Ohio Valley) in 2022. They will be guided by head coach Kendall Paulus, who is entering her seventh season with the Cougars. This will be the first match that has ever been played between Miami and SIUE. Priscilla Jones currently leads the Cougar attack with 83 total kills and Alyse Drifka is leading all Cougars with 4.42 assists per set (106 total assists). Defensively, Abi Banitt has averaged a team-high 3.17 digs per set (76 total digs) and Jones has recorded the most blocks per set with 0.79 (19 total).Â
ABOUT PURDUE FT. WAYNE & SERIES WITH THE MASTODONS: The Mastodons return 11 players from last year's team. Purdue Ft. Wayne is led by head coach Steve Florio after going 9-20 (5-13 Horizon League) in 2022. This is the 10th all-time meeting for Miami and Pudue Ft. Wayne. Panna Ratkai leads the team with 4.00 kills per set (144 total kills) and Taya Haffner tops all Mastodons with 8.81 assists per set (282 total assists). LonDynn Betts has averaged a team-high 4.16 digs per set (154 total digs) and Jena Medearis leads all Mastodons with 0.70 blocks per set (26 total).Â
ABOUT VALPARAISO & SERIES WITH THE BEACONS: In 2022 Valparaiso finished with a 22-11 (9-9 Missouri Valley) record. They are led by veteran head coach Carin Avery, who is the winningest coach in program history. The Beacons return 11 letterwinners from last year's team. The all-time series is 4-3 in favor of Valparaiso. Bella Ravotto currently leads Valparaiso with 2.48 kills per set (82 total kills) and Emily Weber is leading all Beacons with 5.03 assists per set (176 total assists). Emma Hickey has averaged a team-high 4.20 digs per set (147 total digs) and Mallory Januski has produced the most block with 26 total (0.81 blocks per set).

REDBIRD CLASSIC: Miami is coming off a 1-2 weekend, after traveling to Illinois State in the Redbird Classic. The team's included Saint Louis, New Mexico State and Illinois State. The RedHawks closed the out the Redbird Classic by edging past Illinois State in a five-set match. Ellie Hanson recorded a double-double (14 kills and 15 digs), Gracie Norris totaled a career-high 25 assists, Chelsea Williams put down a career-high 21 kills and Gentry Warrick put up a career-high six total blocks to help Miami secure the win.Â
STRONG START: Ellie Hanson has now made the all-tournament team in the Memphis Brawl, Miami Invitational and Redbird Classic. Over the past three weeks, Hanson has totaled 104 kills, 101 digs, 14 service aces, seven assists, six blocks and four service aces. Hayden Hicks has been a key facilitator for Miami, currently averaging 7.5 assists per set. Hicks set a career-high 54 assists against Cleveland State in the Miami Invitational. Gentry Warrick currently leads the RedHawks with 0.87 blocks per set and has 26 total blocks on the year.Â
GREAT RETURNS: Of its 15-player roster, Miami returns 12 RedHawks from the 2022 roster. Seniors Maggie McCrary and Taylor Nomanson lead a solid veteran group. They are joined by juniors Caroline Cermack, Brooke Cirigliano, Margo Lawson and Gracie Norris. The sophomore class is comprised of Ellie Hanson, Hayden Hicks, Emily Morgan and Gentry Warrick. Also returning is redshirt-sophomore Brooke Jackson and redshirt-freshman Amyah Cooper.Â
FRESH FACES: Miami boasts three newcomers on its 2023 roster, who will look to make their impact this season. The talented group of newcomers are Raegan Lantz, Breannah Peterson, and Chelsea Williams.
ECLIPSING 750 CAREER WINS: With a 3-0 win versus Buffalo on Jan. 22, 2021, Miami head coach Carolyn Condit posted her 750th career win. Condit owns a 779-612 career record in her 44th season as a head coach. Owning more victories than any coach in any sport in the history of Miami's storied athletic department, known as the Cradle of Coaches, Condit holds a 680-534 record and is in her 40th season in charge of the Red and White. Condit is the only volleyball coach in the history of the Mid-American Conference to win more than 300 league matches, holding a conference mark of 375-247.
