EVANSVILLE, Ind.-- The Miami University baseball team defeated the University of Southern Indiana by the score 12-2 Wednesday. The RedHawks improve to 16-31 (10-14 MAC) while the Screaming Eagles drop to 15-30 (6-12 OVC).
Miami broke out the bats early, scoring immediately in the first inning. The Screaming Eagles responded, but the Red and White continued to pour on runs throughout the game to run away with a victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:

The RedHawks got on the board quickly in the top of the first. Benji Brokemond reached base on a fielding error. With one out in the inning, Ryland Zaborowski went yard, hitting a two-run home run to make it 2-0 RedHawks.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Screaming Eagles got on the board and scored one, making it 2-1 RedHawks after one inning of work.

In the top of the third, Cooper Weiss led off with a double to right center. Dillon Baker doubled down the left field line to score Weiss. Tommy Harrison followed up with a single to left center to score Baker. With one out and one on, Evan Appelwick homered to left center, capping the four-run inning and making it 6-1 RedHawks.

The Screaming Eagles tacked on one more run in the bottom of the third to make it 6-2 RedHawks.

With one out in the top of the fourth, Brokemond and Weiss reached base on back-to-back walks. After advancing to third on a flyout, Brokemond scored on a single by Baker, making it 7-2 RedHawks.

In the top of the fifth, the Red and White stayed aggressive. After Appelwick and Zach MacDonald led off with back-to-back walks, Nate Stone singled through the right side, scoring Appelwick. Next, Blake Buzzeo recorded an RBI, scoring MacDonald via groundout. Weiss ripped a single through the left side to score Stone. Zaborowski followed up with a double to left field, to tack on the final run of the four-run inning, making it 11-2 'Hawks.

In the top of the eighth, Stone led off with a double to right field. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Buzzeo flew out to left field to score Stone for the final run of the game, making it 12-2 RedHawks.

Zaborowski went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one homer, which was also his team-leading 18th home run of the year.

Appelwick recorded his third home run of the season.

RedHawks pitching held USI to only two runs on four hits; Connor Preisel (4.1 scoreless innings) picked up the win on the mound.
What's Next:
The RedHawks begin their final home series of the year on Friday, May 5 against MAC rival Akron. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
