RedHawks Sweep the Bulls with Two 5-0 Shutouts

OXFORD, Ohio – Brianna Pratt's eight-strikeout game helped secure the 5-0 shutout win over the University at Buffalo in Saturday's first doubleheader game. This also secured the series win for the RedHawks, though they would go on to get the sweep after winning the second game 5-0 as well. This time it was Taylor Turner who earned the shutout win. The wins bring Miami to 20-14 overall and 8-6 in the Mid-American Conference. The losses drop Buffalo to 10-22 overall and 4-4 in MAC competition.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
  • In the bottom of the second Holly Blaska hit an RBI single to score Riley Coyne and give the RedHawks the 1-0 lead.
  • Blaska secured her second RBI single of the game in the bottom of the third when Kate Kobayashi scored to double the lead 2-0.
  • Allie Cummins scored on an RBI single by Chloe Parks in the bottom of the fourth to up the lead again, to 3-0.
  • Pinch hitter, Maggie Murphy, grabbed an RBI on a double in the bottom of the fifth to increase the RedHawks' lead to 4-0.
  • The RedHawks' got their fifth run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-0 on Parks' RBI double that scored Maddi Banks. This would end up the final score of the game.
 
NOTES:
  • Blaska went 2-for-3 while Parks and Kobayashi went 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Pratt had a 0.00 ERA and allowed only 1 hit and 1 walk.
  • Murphy, Blaska, and Parks each earned RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
  • Karli Spaid got it started for the RedHawks in the second game, hitting a solo homerun over center in the bottom of the first inning to earn the 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the third the RedHawks doubled their lead 2-0 when Cummins hit an RBI single that brought in Banks.
  • Parks followed that up with an RBI triple that scored Cummins, granting Miami the 3-0 lead.
  • Right after that, Spaid hit her second homer of the game, also scoring Parks to add two more runs to the board, making it a 5-0 game.
  • The RedHawks would go on to secure the win with the 5-0 score.
 
NOTES:
  • Spaid went 3-for-3 at the plate.
  • Parks and Cummins went 1-for-3 when batting.
  • Turner allowed only 2 hits and 2 walks. She had seven strikeouts to go with her 0.00 ERA.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks return to the field next week in Bowling Green, Ohio to face Bowling Green State University on Tuesday, April 11 at 3 p.m.
