OXFORD, Ohio – One hard-hitting inning for the RedHawks gave them a 5-3 win over the University at Buffalo Friday afternoon.
Holly Blaska's three-run homer capped a five-run fourth for Miami.
Brianna Pratt grabbed the win in the circle for the home team. The loss drops Buffalo to 10-20 on the season and 4-2 in Mid-American Conference competition. Miami goes to 18-14 on the season and 6-6 in the MAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Buffalo took the lead in the top of the second inning on two throwing errors that would allow two to score, making it 2-0.
- Allie Cummins cut the deficit in half on a right-field home run in the bottom of the fourth to pull Miami within 2-1.
- In that same inning, Chloe Parks scored on an RBI single by Riley Coyne to tie the game 2-2.
- Holly Blaska then immediately followed with a three-run homer over the right-field wall. Blaska, Coyne and Kate Kobayashi scored to snag a 5-2 lead.
- On a double in the top of the fifth, the Bulls added another run to the board. However, the RedHawks' lead proved to be too difficult for the Bulls to overcome and Miami secured the 5-3 victory.
NOTES:
- Coyne, Blaska, Parks, Cummins, and Karli Spaid all went 1-for-3 at the plate.
- Kobayashi finished 1-1 with two walks and a stolen base.
- Pratt had eight strikeouts and allowed only seven hits and one earned run to improve her season record to 13-8.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will face the Bulls again to complete the series in a doubleheader Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
