
RedHawks Drop Series Finale to KSU

OXFORD, Ohio--Â The Miami University baseball team dropped the series finale against the Kent State Golden Flashes by the score 9-8 Sunday. The RedHawks drop to 13-29 (9-12 MAC) while the Golden Flashes improve to 27-12 (13-5 MAC).
The series finale was a tight matchup. The RedHawks got on the board early, but were neck and neck with the Golden Flashes for most of the game. KSU scored late to put them on top and take the finale.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â

The RedHawks carried the energy from Saturday over to Sunday. Not missing a beat, Cooper Weiss hit a solo home run to left field. Following Weiss, David Novak reached after being hit by pitch. Dillon Baker doubled down the right field line, putting runners on second and third. Brian Zapp quickly answered with a two-run double, putting the RedHawks up 3-0 after an inning of work.

In the top of the second, the Golden Flashes responded by scoring two, narrowing Miami's lead, making it 3-2 RedHawks.

Leading off in the bottom of the third, Ryland Zaborowski powered his third home run of the series to left center. Baker singled to center field. Zapp joined Zaborowski and hit a two-run shot to right field to make it 6-2 after three innings.Â

In the top of the fourth, KSU cut the deficit down, adding three more runs, making it 6-5 RedHawks.

In the bottom of the fifth, Zach MacDonald hit a solo home run to center field, tacking on another run, making it 7-5 'Hawks.

In the top of the seventh, KSU took possession of the lead for the first time in the game, scoring three and making it 8-7 Golden Flashes.

Benji Brokemond led off the bottom of the eighth with a triple to right center. Zaborowski singled to right center to score Brokemond and tie it up at 8-8 through eight innings.

KSU stayed aggressive and scored one in the top of the ninth to take back a 9-8 lead and score what proved to be the winning run.

Zapp went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

Zaborowski went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.

Nick Vardavas pitched 3.2 innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs.Â

           The RedHawks play at Purdue University Wednesday, April 26. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. in West Lafayette, Ind.
