
RedHawks Secure 8-4 Win at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.--Â The Miami University baseball team earned an 8-4 road victory over the Purdue Boilermakers Wednesday. Martin Sosna picked up the win on the mound, allowing one hit and zero runs in 5.1 innings. The RedHawks improve to 14-29 (9-12 MAC) while the Boilermakers drop to 19-21 (8-7 B1G).
The matchup started off slow for both teams, but the RedHawks jump-started the offense in the third inning and never looked back. Miami continued to score for four straight innings to secure the win over the Boilermakers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â

After two scoreless innings, Miami got things rolling in the top of the third inning. Cooper Weiss led off the inning with a solo home run to left field. With two outs in the inning, Dillon Baker singled to the shortstop. Nate Stone reached base via walk. Evan Appelwick followed up with a double to left center to score both runners and make it 3-0 RedHawks.

In the top of the fourth inning, Tommy Harrison hit a solo homer to right field to tack on another run and make it 4-0 RedHawks.

Brian Zapp and Baker kicked off the top of the fifth inning with back-to-back singles. After both runners advanced, Appelwick grounded out to advance Baker and score Zapp. Zach MacDonald followed, reaching base via walk. Harrison then reached on a throwing error, scoring Baker for the final run of the inning and making it 6-0 RedHawks.

In the top of the sixth, Weiss led off with a single through the left side. Zaborowski reached base via walk. After completing a double steal, Weiss scored from third on a groundout from Baker. Stone followed up with a single through the right side to score Zaborowski and make it 8-0 RedHawks.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Boilermakers got on the board, scoring two to make it 8-2 RedHawks after six innings of work.Â

In the bottom of the seventh, the Boilermakers tacked on two more runs, but couldn't muster more, making the final score 8-4 RedHawks.

What's Next:
           The RedHawks begin a MAC series at Central Michigan University Friday, April 28. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
