OXFORD, Ohio – Despite a strong performance in the circle by
Brianna Pratt, the Miami University softball team fell to Northern Illinois University 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Miami to 14-10 overall and 2-2 in Mid-American Conference competition. The win brings the Huskies to 11-12 on the season and 2-1 in the MAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Huskies scored first on a single and a triple in the top of the first inning, taking the early 2-0 lead.
- In the top of the second, the Huskies added to their lead on a single to make the score 3-0.
- The RedHawks put their first run on the board on a sac fly in the bottom of the second by Riley Coyne to score Jenna Golembiewski and put the score at 3-1.
- There was not another run scored through the next four innings.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Golembiewski homered to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, the RedHawks could not battle back and the Huskies took the series opener.
NOTES:
- Pratt had 11 strikeouts and walked only one.
- Golembiewski went 2-for-3 at the plate including an RBI.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will face Northern Illinois in a doubleheader Sunday, March 26 at 1 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
