RedHawks Drop Season Opener to Georgia Tech, 15-12

ATLANTA, Ga. — The Miami University baseball team dropped its season opener Friday at Georgia Tech, 15-12. The Yellow Jackets (1-0) scored the game's first 13 runs, before the RedHawks (0-1) fell just short in a comeback effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Yellow Jackets quickly got out to a 13-0 lead by the end of the second inning.
- In the top of the third, Zach MacDonald doubled to center field. Cooper Weiss came through with a two-out blast to right center to put the RedHawks on the board, making it 13-2 Yellow Jackets.
- Brian Zapp continued the inning with a single to center field. Dillon Baker was hit by a pitch to follow. Tommy Harrison walked to load the bases. The Yellow Jackets walked four consecutive batters to force three runs across home plate to make it 13-5.
- In the top of the sixth, MacDonald led off the inning with a single to left center. Ryland Zaborowski followed up with a two-run homer to right field, making it 15-7.
- Evan Appelwick continued the sixth by reaching base via walk. Christian Tejada followed by getting hit by a pitch. Tommy Harrison walked to load the bases. Stephen Krause wiped the bases clean with a grand slam over right field to make it 15-11.
- Keeping the momentum going in the next inning, Zaborowski led off the seventh by hitting his second home run of the night, making the score 15-12, but Miami could get no closer.
MIAMI GAME NOTES
- Stephen Krause went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a grand slam.
- Zach MacDonald went 3-for-5 with a walk.
- Ryland Zaborowski made his Miami debut with two home runs, a walk and three RBI.
