OXFORD, OH – On Wednesday night, the Miami University softball team downed Purdue Fort Wayne, 12-0
Brianna Pratt had a five-inning no-hitter and
Allie Cummins had three home runs in the home opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Karli Spaid got it started early for the RedHawks in the bottom of the first inning with a homerun over the right field wall, grabbing the 1-0 lead.
- Cummins didn't wait long to tack on another run, hitting a homerun back-to-back with Spaid, taking the score to 2-0.
- Then it was Kate Kobayashi's turn to put another run on the board, scoring on Holly Blaska's RBI single, increasing the lead to 3-0.
- In the bottom of the second Maddie Banks tagged up at second to score on Spaid sac fly, gaining the 4-0 score for the RedHawks.
- Cummins then hit her second home run of the game in her second at-bat to make the score, 5-0.
- In the bottom of the fourth Banks and Chloe Parks scored on an RBI double from Spaid, taking the lead to 7-0.
- Next, Cummins hit her third home run of the game, scoring Spaid, widening the gap again, 9-0.
- Reagan Bartholomew and Shelby Kunkel then scored on an RBI double by pinch hitter Logan Mueller, increasing the lead to 11-0
- Bartholomew then scored on a pass ball, making the score 12-0, eventually run-ruling the Mastodons.
NOTES:
- Cummins went 3-for-3 at the plate with three home runs.
- Spaid and Cummins each had 4 RBI.
- Banks went 2-for-2 at the plate.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks will face Bellarmine University on Feb. 24 at 1:15 p.m. in Murray, Ky. at the Murray State Tournament.
