BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Miami University volleyball team fell to the Buffalo Bulls (22-5, 12-3 MAC) Saturday evening in three sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-17) at Alumni Arena. Ellie Hanson and Maggie McCrary earned their 500th career kill for the RedHawks (5-22, 1-14 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Red and White came out with a flurry of kills at the start of the match to command an 8-5 lead. Hanson recorded three kills midway through the first set for the RedHawks to remain ahead at 12-7. Breannah Peterson knocked down a kill, and Gentry Warrick had a solo block to give Miami their largest lead of the set at 17-11. A pair of Hanson kills and an additional kill from Caroline Cermack, brought Miami just three points away from winning the set at 22-17. Buffalo went on to edge the RedHawks by two points to take a 25-23 first set win. The Red and White totaled 18 kills in the entirety of the first set.
Buffalo controlled the score for a majority of the second set. The Bulls led 9-5 approaching the midpoint, but Miami came within two at 14-12. The Bulls looked to close out the second set at 22-16 before Miami rallied off five straight points; Hanson sparked the run by putting down back-to-back service aces and a kill. Despite the Red and White tying the match at 23 apiece, Buffalo pulled out a 25-23 set win.
The Bulls began the third set with a 3-0 advantage, but Miami responded with two blocks and a McCrary kill to even the score. Miami remained down by one point at 8-7 thanks to a Raegan Lantz kill. Buffalo commanded a 14-7 lead halfway through the set. A collection of McCrary kills and Buffalo attack errors kept Miami in striking distance late in the set. The Bulls closed the third set with a 25-17 win.
