Miami Starts 2026 Season With Three-Set Win Over McNeese

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — The Miami University volleyball team (1-0) opened the Bearkat Invitational by taking down McNeese (0-1) in three sets to earn its first victory of the season on Friday. Chelsea Williams led all players with 17 kills, and Molly Creech followed closely behind with 15 kills of her own. Holland Van Deusen added a match-high 19 assists and 13 digs, while Lindy Radaszewski made a statement on defense with a career-best three solo blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

A flurry of early kills, two of which were by Creech, helped the RedHawks jump ahead of McNeese 7-4. The Cowgirls responded with a run of their own to claim a 9-7 lead. A solo block and three kills from Williams helped even the score at 12 apiece. Radaszewski followed this up by recording back-to-back solo blocks to put the Red and White on top 14-12. A block from Creech and Lydia Michelin helped Miami keep control of the set at 19-16 until McNeese knotted things up at 21-21. Miami scored the final three points of the set using a kill from Creech and a service ace from Kamryn Utley to earn a 26-24 first-set victory.
In the opening of the second set, three early kills from Williams kept the Red and White within striking distance at 6-4. McNeese looked to pull away at 9-5 before multiple errors from the Cowgirls and more kills from Williams tied the score at 12-12. After a sequence of back-and-forth action, Miami secured the set by scoring six of the final seven points, capped off by a Grace Kreutz service ace to take the set 25-22.
Lauren Coyne and Creech got the offense going at the start of the third set to command a 7-4 advantage. McNeese continued to keep it a competitive set at 11-11 until Radaszewski had two kills and Michelin added a solo block to help Miami stay in control at 15-12. Despite a hard-fought set from the Cowgirls, yet another solo block from Radaszewski and two kills from Creech propelled the Red and White to a 25-22 win in the third set.

NOTES:

Kreutz led all players with two service aces.
Rachel Morgan and Van Deusen made the first start of their careers.
Kendall Bosse, Madison Brown, Van Deusen and Morgan each made their collegiate debuts.
