HUNTSVILLE, Texas — The Miami University volleyball team (2-1) concluded the Bearkat Invitational by securing a four-set victory over Cal State Fullerton (1-2) on Saturday afternoon. Molly Creech led the match with 20 kills, while Lauren Coyne (10), Chelsea Williams (nine) and Lindy Radaszewski (eight) added to the RedHawk attack. Grace Kreutz made a strong impact on both ends, leading all players with career-highs in digs (16) and service aces (5).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Creech and Coyne got the RedHawk offense going at the start of the first set, as they each put down a pair of kills to give Miami a 6-5 lead. The RedHawks were able to take advantage of numerous errors by the Titans, and a Sydney Waller kill gave Miami its largest lead of the set at 15-11. Cal State Fullerton answered by taking an 18-15 advantage, and despite back-to-back kills from Creech to even the score at 23 apiece, the Titans scored the final two points to take the first set 25-23.
Miami opened the second set with a 5-2 lead before the Titans once again made a run on offense to overtake Miami 12-8. The RedHawks stayed resilient, as two kills from Williams sparked the RedHawk offense and kept them within two points at 16-14. A 5-0 run behind two kills and a service ace from Creech pushed the score to 19-16 in favor of Miami. The Red and White did not look back, as Holland Van Desusen helped the RedHawks score the final five points thanks to two service aces to take the set 25-18.
The RedHawks began the third set on a mission, scoring 16 unanswered points before the Titans got on the scoreboard. Creech, Coyne and Radaszewski combined for nine kills, and Kreutz added three service aces to thrust Miami ahead of Cal State Fullerton at 16-0. The Red and White didn't let up from there, scoring seven of the final eight points to roll past the Titans 25-3.
Kreutz continued her strong serving with an ace, and Coyne added three kills to make it 7-2 in the fourth set. The Titans closed within three points before Miami used a 5-0 run to extend its lead to 12-4. The next five points came from kills to fend off Cal State Fullerton at 17-8. A couple of errors from the Titans, a service ace from Creech and a Sophia Stallworth kill handed Miami a 25-16 win.

NOTES:

Today's 25-3 third-set win is the largest point differential in Miami history since the NCAA adopted the current 25-point format in 2008.
The RedHawks had 51 kills in comparison to 33 from the Titans.
Radaszewski recorded the most blocks (four) of the match.
Van Deusen posted a match-high 20 assists.
Raegan Lantz made her first start of the season.
Stallworth made her collegiate debut.

The Red and White return home to host the Best Western Invitational Sept. 4-5. The RedHawks will take on Evansville, Kansas City and Purdue Fort Wayne at the invitational.
