Miami Hosts Bowling Green Tuesday Night

THIS TUESDAY: The RedHawks continue conference play by hosting Bowling Green this Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. The match will take place at Millett Hall and can be streamed on ESPN+.

ABOUT BOWLING GREEN: Bowling Green holds an 8-11 record, after most recently splitting a pair of matches with Ohio last week. At the head of the program is Danijela Tomic who is coming off of a 22-10 (15-3 MAC) season in 2022 and won the fourth MAC volleyball title in program history. Lauryn Hovey currently leads the Bowling Green attack with 3.23 kills per set (252 total kills) and Jaden Walz is leading all Falcons with 6.12 assists per set (459 total assists). Defensively, Alex Laboy has averaged a team-high 3.22 digs per set (222 total digs) and Alexis Mattille leads the Falcons with 63 total blocks (0.88 per set). Various Falcons currently rank among top MAC statistical leaders. Hovey finds herself at ninth in kills and eighth in service aces. Mettille is also ranked ninth in blocks and Jessica Andrews is sixth in blocks. 

OPPONENT HISTORY: Miami and Bowling Green first clashed in 1976. This Tuesday will mark the 92nd meeting between the two teams. The RedHawks are 52-39 all-time against the Falcons. Miami holds a 22-15 home record, 19-21 away record and a 11-3 neutral record when facing Bowling Green. The last time the Red and White defeated Bowling Green was on Oct. 10, 2019 in a 3-0 match. 

TELEVISION: This match will be available to watch on ESPN+. 

UP NEXT: Miami next hosts Ohio University in the Battle of the Bricks on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. The RedHawks follow up with the Bobcats in their final match of the week Saturday, Oct. 21. 

KENT STATE RECAP: The Miami University volleyball team (5-15, 1-7 MAC) won a four-set match (25-21, 26-28, 25-19, 26-24) to Kent State University (5-15, 1-8 MAC) Saturday evening. The Red and White sealed the match in the fourth set after trailing Kent State 24-20. The RedHawks put down three kills and three service aces to end the set on a 6-0 run. Caroline Cermack came on late in her first appearance of the match and provided two of the three service aces to help Miami close out the match.

MAC LEADERS: Three RedHawks rank among MAC statistical leaders. Senior Maggie McCrary currently sits at seventh in hitting percentage (.319). She has recorded 93 total kills in 65 sets played. In addition, sophomore Gentry Warrick ranks eighth in hitting percentage (.317). Warrick has also flashed on the defensive end for the RedHawks, as she ranks fourth in blocks per set (0.94). Sophomore Hayden Hicks has been a key facilitator for Miami, as she ranks tenth in assists per set (6.58).

HICKS EARNS 1,000TH CAREER ASSIST: Hayden Hicks handed out the 1,000th assist of her career in Miami Volleyball's match against Ball State. Hicks finished with two kills and 42 assists between Miami's two matches last week (18 vs. Toledo, 24 vs. BSU) and added seven digs against the Cardinals. The sophomore setter from Frisco, Texas now owns a total of 1,012 assists as a RedHawk.

YOUTH MOVEMENT: This season sophomore Ellie Hanson has led the offensive charge, as she holds a team best 238.5 total points (209 kills total). She also ranks first on the team in digs (215) and service aces (25). In the first three weeks of play, Hanson made the all-tournament team in the Tiger Brawl, Miami Invitational and Redbird Classic. Sophomore Hayden Hicks notched a career-high 54 assists against Cleveland State in the Miami Invitational and was named to the all-tournament in the Tiger Brawl. Freshman Chelsea Williams is currently second on the team with 2.83 kills per set (187 kills total). She was named to the all-tournament team in the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational. 

GREAT RETURNS: Of its 15-player roster, Miami returns 12 RedHawks from the 2022 roster. Seniors Maggie McCrary and Taylor Nomanson lead a solid veteran group. They are joined by juniors Caroline Cermack, Brooke Cirigliano, Margo Lawson and Gracie Norris. The sophomore class is comprised of Ellie Hanson, Hayden Hicks, Emily Morgan and Gentry Warrick. Also returning is redshirt-sophomore Brooke Jackson and redshirt-freshman Amyah Cooper. 

FRESH FACES: Miami boasts three newcomers on its 2023 roster, who will look to make their impact this season. The talented group of newcomers are Raegan Lantz, Breannah Peterson and Chelsea Williams.

ECLIPSING 750 CAREER WINS: With a 3-0 win versus Buffalo on Jan. 22, 2021, Miami head coach Carolyn Condit posted her 750th career win. Condit owns a 781-617 career record in her 44th season as a head coach. Owning more victories than any coach in any sport in the history of Miami's storied athletic department, known as the Cradle of Coaches, Condit holds a 682-539 record and is in her 40th season in charge of the Red and White. Condit is the only volleyball coach in the history of the Mid-American Conference to win more than 300 league matches, holding a conference mark of 376-250.
