THIS WEEKEND: The RedHawks continue conference play by traveling to Kent State this Friday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m., and follow up with their second match against Kent State on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. Each match will take place at the Memorial Athletic Convocation Center and can be streamed on ESPN+.
ABOUT KENT STATE: Kent State holds a 4-14 record, after most recently going 0-2 last week to Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. They are led by second year head coach Haley Eckerman who is coming off of a 13-16 (4-14 MAC) season in 2022. Mackenzie McGuire currently leads the Kent State attack with 4.02 kills per set (221 total kills) and Kendall White is leading all Golden Flashes with 7.19 assists per set (460 total assists). Defensively, Bryn Roberts has averaged a team-high 4.20 digs per set (285 total digs) and Burgundy Walters has recorded the most blocks per set with 0.78 (47 blocks total).
OPPONENT HISTORY: Miami and Kent State first clashed in 1976. This Friday will mark the 91st meeting between the RedHawks and Golden Flashes. Miami holds a 31-12 home record, 30-10 away record and a 7-0 neutral record when facing Kent State. The last time the Red and White defeated Kent State was on Sept. 20, 2022 in a 3-2 match.

HICKS EARNS 1,000TH CAREER ASSIST: Hayden Hicks handed out the 1,000th assist of her career last Friday night in Miami Volleyball's match against Ball State. Hicks finished with two kills and 42 assists between Miami's two matches last week (18 vs. Toledo, 24 vs. BSU) and added seven digs against the Cardinals. The sophomore setter from Frisco, Texas now owns a total of 1,012 assists as a RedHawk.
MAC LEADERS: Three RedHawks rank among MAC statistical leaders. Senior Maggie McCrary currently sits at fifth in hitting percentage (.328). She has recorded 83 total kills in 58 sets played. In addition, sophomore Gentry Warrick ranks ninth in hitting percentage (.313). Warrick has also flashed on the defensive end for the RedHawks, as she ranks tenth in blocks per set (0.87). Sophomore Hayden Hicks has been a key facilitator for Miami, as she ranks tenth in assists per set (6.56).
YOUTH MOVEMENT: This season sophomore Ellie Hanson has led the offensive charge, as she holds a team best 220 total points (193 kills total). She also ranks first on the team in digs (195 total through 64 sets played) and service aces (23 total though 64 set played). In the first three weeks of play, Hanson made the all-tournament team in the Tiger Brawl, Miami Invitational and Redbird Classic. Sophomore Hayden Hicks notched a career-high 54 assists against Cleveland State in the Miami Invitational and was named to the all-tournament in the Tiger Brawl. Freshman Chelsea Williams is currently second on the team with 2.92 kills per set (172 kills total). She was named to the all-tournament team in the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational.
GREAT RETURNS: Of its 15-player roster, Miami returns 12 RedHawks from the 2022 roster. Seniors Maggie McCrary and Taylor Nomanson lead a solid veteran group. They are joined by juniors Caroline Cermack, Brooke Cirigliano, Margo Lawson and Gracie Norris. The sophomore class is comprised of Ellie Hanson, Hayden Hicks, Emily Morgan and Gentry Warrick. Also returning is redshirt-sophomore Brooke Jackson and redshirt-freshman Amyah Cooper.
FRESH FACES: Miami boasts three newcomers on its 2023 roster, who will look to make their impact this season. The talented group of newcomers are Raegan Lantz, Breannah Peterson and Chelsea Williams.
THE BROOKE JACKSON STORY: Brooke Jackson has always been competitive. It's easy for fans to see that in a Miami Volleyball match. ECLIPSING 750 CAREER WINS: With a 3-0 win versus Buffalo on Jan. 22, 2021, Miami head coach Carolyn Condit posted her 750th career win. Condit owns a 780-616 career record in her 44th season as a head coach. Owning more victories than any coach in any sport in the history of Miami's storied athletic department, known as the Cradle of Coaches, Condit holds a 681-538 record and is in her 40th season in charge of the Red and White. Condit is the only volleyball coach in the history of the Mid-American Conference to win more than 300 league matches, holding a conference mark of 375-249.
