Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Ohio

OXFORD, Ohio -- The Miami University baseball team split a double header with Ohio University on Saturday afternoon. The RedHawks picked up a 5-1 win in game one behind timely hitting and a complete game effort by Zach Maxey. Maxey threw seven innings, allowing just one earned run. Zach MacDonald tripled and scored two runs, while Cole Andrews drove in three runs.
In a back and forth affair in game two David Novak provided a spark for the RedHawks with two home runs, twice tying the game for the RedHawks. Miami ultimately fell in ten innings by a score of 10-9.  The RedHawks improve to 18-25 (13-17 MAC) while the Bobcats improve to 20-18 (12-11 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- In the bottom of the first MacDonald tripled to right-center field, then scored on an Andrews sac fly, putting the RedHawks up 1-0.
- In the bottom of the second, tied at one, Brian Zapp doubled to right field. Zapp then put on a great display of baserunning, reaching third on a wild pitch before scoring on a passed ball.
- In the bottom of the third, leading 2-1, Benji Brokemond reached on a single, then advanced to second on a MacDonald hit by pitch. Andrews then doubled to left-center, driving in Brokemond and MacDonald, extending the RedHawks lead to three.
- In the bottom of the sixth, leading 4-1, Parker Lester and Novak singled, before Easton Good replaced Novak on the bases. Good and Lester then stole second and third base respectively, before Stephen Krause reached on a walk, loading the bases. William Escala then drove home Lester on an infield single, putting the 'Hawks up 5-1.
Miami Game Notes: Game One
- Maxey threw his first career complete game while lowering his ERA to 2.81, the fourth-best MAC ERA.
- Lester reached base twice, scoring a run and a stolen base.
- Brokemond, Novak, Zapp, and Escala also had hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- In the bottom of the sixth, trailing 6-0, Krause led off with a single down the right-field line, followed by an Escala double, putting runners on second and third. Brokemond later drove in Krause, putting the 'Hawks on the board.
- In the bottom of the seventh, trailing 6-1, Escala and Neibuaer singled, before a Brokemond single brought home Escala. Following Andrews being hit by a pitch, Lester drove home Neibauer and Escala on a fielder's choice before advancing to second on the throw. The following at-bat Novak crushed a homerun to left field, tying the game up at six.
- In the bottom of the ninth, trailing 9-6, JJ Woolwine led off with a single, followed by a MacDonald walk, putting two runners on. Later in the inning Novak belted his second home run of the game, tying the game at nine.

- Novak went 3-for-5 with two homeruns, five RBI, and two runs scored.
- Escala went 3-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored.
- Brokemond reached base twice, with two RBI's and a run scored.Â
