OXFORD, Ohio-- The Miami University baseball team held on for a 9-7 win over Ohio Sunday afternoon in the teams' series finale. The RedHawks improve to 19-25 (14-17 MAC) with the win, while the Bobcats drop to 20-19 (12-12 MAC).

Freshmen David Novak and Zach MacDonald led the way for the RedHawks with each belting homers, going a combined 4-for-7 with five RBI. In his first collegiate start, Brady McLean picked up his first win, while Michael Spinozzi picked up his first save of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the bottom of the second, trailing 2-0, MacDonald led off with a solo home run, cutting the Bobcat lead in half. Following a William Escala single, Nick Neibauer doubled to right field, driving in Escala and tying the game at two.
In the bottom of the third, David Novak put the RedHawks up 3-2 with a solo home run over the center-field wall.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dalton Back walked, then advanced to third on a Benji Brokemond single. Parker Lester drove in Back with a groundout, before a Novak ground-rule double plated Brokemond, extending the RedHawk lead to three.
Leading 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Neibauer led off with a walk. The following at-bat, Dalton Back hit a home run to left field, extending the RedHawks' lead to four. Brokemond then singled, followed by a Lester double, putting runners on second and third. Novak then drove in Brokemond with a sac fly. In the next at-bat, MacDonald singled, driving in Lester and extending the RedHawk lead to six.
Ohio scored three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth as Miami closed out a 9-7 victory.

Miami Game Notes:

McLean threw five innings, allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts.
Brokemond went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Lester went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
Back reached base twice with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI.
Patrick Mastrian IV threw two innings out of the bullpen, striking out three batters.

The RedHawks next travel to Toledo for a make-up game Tuesday, May 3. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
