KENT, Ohio-- The Miami University baseball team picked up a 4-0 win at Kent State Friday behind masterful pitching from Jonathan Brand and Kenten Egbert. The RedHawks improve to 16-21 (11-13 MAC) while the Golden Flashes drop to 13-19 (8-11 MAC).

Zach MacDonald continued his hot streak with two extra-base hits, including his sixth home run of the season. Brand threw seven scoreless innings, picking up his seventh win on the season while lowering his MAC-best ERA to 1.17.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the top of the third in a scoreless game, MacDonald hit a home run to right field, putting the RedHawks up 1-0.
In top of the sixth, leading 1-0, David Novak doubled down the right-field line. Brian Zapp followed with a single up the middle, extending the RedHawks' lead to 2-0.
In the top of the ninth, leading 2-0, William Escala reached base on an error. Escala then stole second and third before Benji Brokemond drove him in with a single. After Brokemond stole second, he scored on a Cole Andrews RBI double, extending the Miami advantage to 4-0.

Miami Game Notes:

Novak set a career-high with three hits, including a double and a run scored.
Andrews went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Egbert picked up his first save of the season, throwing two scoreless innings out of the bullpen with three strikeouts.
MacDonald's home run was his fourth in the last six games.

Miami and KSU will play a doubleheader Saturday, April 23. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m. in Kent.
