KALAMAZOO, Mich.-- The Miami University baseball team split a doubleheader today with the Western Michigan Broncos. The RedHawks move to 14-20 (10-12 MAC), while the Broncos are now 10-21 (7-10 MAC).
In game one, the RedHawks picked up a 4-3 win behind strong pitching and timely hitting.
Tyler Ronevich recorded his second win of the season, throwing five innings and allowing one earned run while striking out seven Broncos.
Zach MacDonald's bat stayed hot, as the freshman blasted his third home run of the series.
Game two was a pitchers' duel that ultimately saw the Broncos pick up a 2-1 win.
Zach Maxey threw 6.1 innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out five Broncos.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- In the top of the third in a scoreless game, JJ Woolwine drew a walk. Nick Neibauer then doubled down the right-field line, putting runners on second and third. Benji Brokemond then drove in Woolwine, putting the RedHawks up 1-0.
- In the top of the fourth, trailing 2-1, MacDonald knotted things up at two with his solo blast to left-center field.
- In the top of the fifth, Brokemond reached on a walk, before a Cole Andrews single put two runners on base. Stephen Krause then drove in Brokemond, giving the 'Hawks a 3-2 lead.
- In the top of the sixth, MacDonald singled, then advanced to second on a throwing error. Parker Lester then singled through the left side, driving in MacDonald and putting the RedHawks back up by one.

- Patrick Mastrian IV threw two scoreless innings out of the pen, picking up his second save on the season.
- Andrews went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- MacDonald reached in all of his plate appearances, hitting a home run while scoring two runs.
- Brokemond reached base twice with an RBI and a run scored.
- Lester went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- In the top of the fifth in a scoreless game, MacDonald reached on a walk, later scoring on a Bronco error.
- The Broncos scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

- Neibauer, Lester and Brian Zapp picked up base hits.
- Luke Leverton threw 1.2 innings out of the bullpen, allowing no earned runs.
