Baseball Drops Doubleheader to EMU

OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University baseball team dropped a pair of games to the Eastern Michigan Eagles Sunday afternoon by the scores of 3-1 and 14-10. The RedHawks slip to 12-18 (8-10 MAC), while the Eagles improve to 12-16 (8-7 MAC).
 
Game one was a pitchers' duel, with neither team able to muster much offense. Tyler Ronevich allowed just three hits over six innings, fanning seven Eagles. William Escala provided a spark for the RedHawks at the plate, going 2-for-3.
 
Game two was a different story, with both teams' offenses exploding. Cole Andrews led the way for the 'Hawks, going 2-for-5 with a homer and five RBI. Dalton Back also belted a two-run homer.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- In the top of the fourth, Eastern Michigan took a 1-0 lead. The visitors added two runs in the top of the fifth, taking a 3-0 lead.
 - In the bottom of the seventh, trailing 3-0, Escala and Parker Lester singled, setting up a Nick Neibauer RBI single to cut the Eagles' lead to 3-1.

- Martin Sosna threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen after inheriting two runners.
 - Escala went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 - Stephen Krause doubled and recorded nine putouts.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- In the bottom of the first, Brian Zapp doubled to center field, then stole third base. Later in the inning, Krause singled, driving in Zapp to give the RedHawks an early 1-0 lead.
 - With the game tied at one in the bottom of the third ,Neibauer and Zapp led off the inning with singles. Andrews then stepped up and belted a three-run homer down the left field line, giving the RedHawks a 4-1 lead.
 - In the bottom of the sixth, trailing 5-4, Back walked, followed by a Dom Magliocca single and Blake Buzzeo walk, loading the bases. Back then scored on a walk drawn by Neibauer, tying the game at five. Andrews later singled to center, driving in Magliocca and Buzzeo and putting the Red and White up two.
 - In the bottom of the seventh, trailing 13-7, Krause led off with a walk. Later in the inning, Back belted a two-run homer to left-center field, cutting the deficit to four. Lester then pinch-hit, doubling before later scoring on a Buzzeo single.
 
Miami Game Notes: Game Two
- After coming in to pinch-hit, Lester went 2-for-2 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored.
 - Magliocca went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 - Zapp went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored.
 - Every RedHawk with an at-bat recorded at least one hit.
 - Zach Maxey, Nick DeMonica, Michael Spinozzi, Patrick Mastrian IV and Brady McLean saw time on the mound.
