Oxford, Ohio — The Miami University baseball team picked up a pair of conference wins on Friday afternoon versus Bowling Green. In game one,
Jonathan Brand pitched a complete game shutout in a 2-0 victory. In game two the RedHawks routed Bowling Green 15-1 behind numerous strong performances, including
Dom Magliocca's first career homerun and six shutout inning by
Luke Leverton in his first career start. Following the sweep, the RedHawks improved to 5-7 (2-0 MAC) while Bowling Green drops to 2-9 (0-2 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- In the bottom of the fifth Dalton Back led off with a single and then worked his way to second. With two outs JJ Woolwine doubled to right field, scoring Back. The following at-bat William Escala singled, bringing home Woolwine, giving the RedHawks a 2-0 lead.
- Brand did the rest, striking out seven Falcons, while allowing just three hits.
Miami Game Notes: Game One
- Woolwine reached base three times including an RBI double.
- Nick Neibauer went 2-for-2 with a walk and a double.
- Escala reached base twice and had an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- In the bottom of the first, Cole Andrews reached base with a walk, then a Stephen Krause single and Neibauer walk loaded the bases. Benji Brokemond then singled through the right side, driving in Andrews and Krause, while Neibauer scored on a throwing error, giving Miami a 3-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the second, following a Blake Buzzeo single, Magliocca hit a two-run home run to right field, extending the RedHawk lead to five.
- In the bottom of the third Neibauer led off with a single, followed by Brokemond single, putting runners on second and third after they both advanced on the throw. Parker Lester then singled, driving in both runners. After a buzzeo single and Magliocca walk the RedHawks loaded the bases. Escala then drove in Lester, putting the RedHawks up 8-0.
- In the bottom of the fourth Krause led off with a triple, and was then drove in by Neibauer. Brokemond then doubled down the right field line, putting runners on second and third. Back then doubled through the left side, scoring Neibauer and Brokemond. Lester then singled driving in Back. Later in the inning Andrews drove in Lester on a single, extending the lead to 13-0.
- In the bottom of the sixth Andrews walked, then Easton Good singled in his first career at bat. Later in the inning Brokemond singled to right, bringing home Andrews and Good.
Miami Game Notes: Game Two
- Leverton threw six scoreless innings striking out six batters while allowing just three hits.
- Brokemond went 4-for-4 with four RBI, a double, two runs scored and a walk.
- Buzzeo went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.
- Lester went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
- Magliocca reached base three times, including his first career homer, while scoring two runs.
- Neibauer went 2-for-3 with an RBI, three runs scored and an walk.
- Andrews reached base four times, scored two runs and an RBI.
