CLEVELAND—Following a career-high 28-point performance in a thrilling 91-81 win at Buffalo on Dec. 29, Miami University men's basketball senior guard Mekhi Lairy (Evansville, Ind./Evansville Bosse) was named Mid-American Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.
Lairy scored 20 second-half points, helping the RedHawks evaporate an 11-point second-half deficit and lifting Miami to an 11-point advantage late in the game, in the RedHawks' lone contest of the week. It was Miami's first MAC-opening win since 2017-18.
Lairy scored seven points over the final 1:50 of the game to help clinch the road win, including two of his eight free throws to hand Miami their largest lead of the game with 44 seconds to play, 88-77. Lairy led all players in scoring, going 8-of-16 (.500) from the floor, including 4-of-5 (.800) from 3-point range, and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. He accounted for five of the RedHawks' 12 assists for the game and added four rebounds to his line.
He shares the weekly award with Akron's Ali Ali. This is the first MAC player of the week award for a RedHawk this season. Lairy is a Family Science major in the College of Education.
