COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former Miami University standout and 2011 Hobey Baker Award winner Andy Miele was named to the 2022 U.S. Olympic men's hockey team, USA Hockey announced on Thursday.
A native of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., Miele starred for four years (2007-11) with the RedHawks. The forward finished his career with 60 goals and 99 assists for 159 points, the seventh-highest total in program history. He became Miami's first Hobey Baker Award winner during the 2010-11 season, when he racked up 71 points on 24 goals and 47 assists in his senior campaign. That point total tied for the second most in a season by a RedHawk. Miele was part of both of Miami's Frozen Four teams, first in 2009 and again in 2010.
Miele also represented the United States at the IIHF World Championship twice, in 2011 and 2014. He currently plays for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the KHL, where he has accumulated 36 points (13-23-36) so far this season.
"Andy is someone who means a lot to Miami Hockey and myself personally. We are all very proud of him for being named to the U.S. Olympic Team in 2022," said Miami coach Chris Bergeron.
The U.S. begins Olympic play on Thursday, Feb. 10 in Beijing vs. host China. The complete Team USA roster is available here.
