EUGENE, Ore. - Miami track and field senior Olivia Bechtel saw her terrific 2021 outdoor season come to an end Thursday night at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Competing in the semifinals of the 400-meter, Bechtel posted an eighth-place finish in the third heat.
After qualifying for the National Championships with a successful stint at the NCAA East Prelims, the Bay Village, Ohio native competed among the nation's best in the semifinals of the 400, where she ran a 53.33 second time to take 23rd overall. Unfortunately, this was not enough to advance Bechtel to the finals on Saturday, as the top nine athletes advanced.Â
The event's full results can be found above.Â
Bechtel wraps up a dominant Miami career at the National Championships, finishing her time at Miami with two individual school records in both the 200 and the 400 and a dominant performance in her final MAC Championships, breaking a MAC and meet record in the women's 400-meter final to take the title with a 51.65-second finish. A two-time MAC Most Outstanding Track performer for outdoor track, Bechtel is a five-time MAC Champion throughout her career and is a four-time Academic All-MAC selection. For her efforts at the NCAA Championships, the Bay Village native was named an Honorable Mention All-American.
Miami Track and Field continues its stint at the 2021 NCAA National Championships with Finley Mclear slated to compete in the finals of the 800-meter event tomorrow. His event is scheduled for a 6:14 p.m. (PT) start.
