RedHawks Host Eastern Michigan Friday & Saturday

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY'S MATCHES: The Miami University volleyball team returns home to host Eastern Michigan in a Friday/Saturday series with the teams squaring off at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 19 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 20. 

ABOUT EASTERN MICHIGAN: The Eagles enter the weekend with a 7-8 record and are coming off a five-set win at Central Michigan on Tuesday. Franki Strefling averages a team-leading 4.40 kps. Bella Hommes averages 4.88 dps, while Strefling follows at 4.09 dps. Raeven Chase averages 1.35 bps, while Jayden Otto averages 10.4 aps. 

THE SERIES WITH THE EAGLES: Friday marks the 59th meeting between Miami and Eastern Michigan with the RedHawks holding a 43-15 lead in the series. When playing in Oxford, Miami is 21-7. The RedHawks won the last meeting between the teams in four sets on Oct. 18, 2019. The Eagles' last win in the series also was their last win at Millett Hall, a five-set win on Nov. 18, 2018.

TELEVISION: Friday and Saturday's matches will be aired on ESPN+. Steve Baker, Lisa Dankovich and Randy Hollowell will call the action.

UP NEXT: Miami rounds out the regular season with three matches the week of March 22. MU hosts Ball State at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23 before heading to Central Michigan for a 6 p.m. match on Friday, March 26 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 27.

HUSER RECORDS 1,000th CAREER DIG: Senior Abigail Huser became the 17th member of Miami's 1,000 dig club on Thursday, March 4 at Kent State. Huser needed 13 digs entering the contest and hit the mark early in the third set. She has 1,092 entering Miami's next match to rank 12th on the list.

Senior Morgan Seaman - 8.20 assist per set; 8th
Senior Abigail Huser - 4.45 digs per set; 9th

SEAMAN CLIMBS ASSIST LIST: Senior Morgan Seaman moved into eighth on Miami's career assist chart and has 2,639 entering MU's next match. She has played in 109 career matches, playing in her 100th career match on Feb. 18 against Western Michigan. 

ECLIPSING 750 CAREER WINS: With a 3-0 win versus Buffalo on Jan. 22, Miami head coach Carolyn Condit posted her 750th career win. Condit owns a 757-564 career record in her 41st season as a head coach. Condit's 757 total victories are tied for eighth among active NCAA Division I coaches, and tied for 24th all-time. Owning more victories than any coach in the history of the Miami Athletic Department, Condit holds a 658-487 record in her 37th season in charge of the Red and White. Condit is the only volleyball coach in the history of the Mid-American Conference to win over 300 league matches, holding a conference mark of 361-216.

ON THE ATTACK: Over Miami's last eight matches, senior Avarie Powell and junior Sophie Riemersma have been solid offensive threats for the RedHawks. Riemersma has been in double figures for kills in five matches, while hitting .278. Riemersma has twice recorded a season-high 15 kills. Powell has recorded nine or more kills in five matches, while hitting .325. Powell notched a season-high 15 kills at Kent State on March 4.

  • Senior Morgan Seaman has recorded seven assist/dig double-doubles this season, the last two coming on March 12 and March 13 against Ohio.
  • Twice this season senior Morgan Seaman has surpassed 50 kills, notching 51 at Northern Illinois on Feb. 25 and a season-high 53, one off her career best, at Kent State on March 5.
  • Senior Sarah Wojick has been in double figures for kills in nine of Miami's last 12 matches. She tallied a career-high 18 kills at Akron on Jan. 29.
  • Senior Abigail Huser has been in double figures for digs in 14 of MU's 16 matches this season and reached or surpassed 20-dig mark six times. Huser notched a season-best 27 digs at Northern Illinois on Feb. 25.
  • Freshman Maggie McCrary leads Miami with 38 blocks this season, including 34 block assists. Three times she has notched five block assists in a match: Jan. 28 at Akron, Feb. 5 at Bowling Green, Mar. 13 vs. Ohio.
  • Three times this season, a Miami player has served up four aces in a match. Sophomore Allyson Severance has recorded four service aces twice, versus Buffalo on Jan. 23 and at Northern Illinois on Feb. 25. Senior Morgan Seaman also served up four aces at Akron on Jan. 29.
