Bellarmine Gets Past Miami 77-68

OXFORD, Ohio— Dae Dae Grant scored a season-high 22 points and Precious Ayah added 13, but Bellarmine shot 66.7% from the floor in the second half and pushed past Miami 77-68 Saturday afternoon in Millett Hall.

The RedHawks (5-5) did not trail in the first half and took a two-point lead into intermission, but the Knights (6-7) scored on nine consecutive possessions in the second half to break the game open and take control.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Miami's Myja White hit a three-pointer on the opening trip to get the home team off to a good start, with the RedHawks taking a 13-6 lead shortly before the second media timeout.
  • A long Ayah jumper with 6:40 remaining in the half gave the Red and White a 24-16 lead, equaling Miami's biggest margin of the game.
  • The visitors closed the period on a 7-2 run, using a layup with three seconds left to close within 34-32 at the break.
  • Dalonte Brown's three-pointer with 16:27 to play put Miami up 41-35, but the Knights answered back with a 9-0 run en route to their first lead of the game.
  • Brown grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back with 9:57 remaining to forge a 50-50 tie, but Bellarmine scored the next eight points to pull away.
  • The Knights went 6-6 from the foul line in the final 33 seconds to seal the outcome.

NOTES
  • Brown was recognized before the game for setting two program records earlier this month (games played and starts). Today was his 128th appearance and 121st start.
  • This was the teams' first meeting since 1968.
  • The RedHawks had 13 second chance points to Bellarmine's two and out-rebounded the visitors 32-23.
