CLEMSON, S.C.—The Miami University men's basketball team (5-4) went toe-to-toe with Clemson University (7-4) throughout much of the game, but a surge by the Tigers midway through the second half handed Clemson a lead it would not relinquish in an 89-76 decision at Littlejohn Coliseum on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Clemson built a 14-8 lead early in the first half, Miami went on a 10-2 surge that included two buckets apiece from senior forward James Beck and junior guard Dae Dae Grant to notch an 18-16 advantage by the 8:33 mark.
- The RedHawks extended their lead to five with 4:58 to play in the opening half off a Grant triple, 27-22.
- Clemson used an 8-0 run to push ahead to a 36-32 advantage with 30 seconds to go, but junior guard Myja White drained a triple as time expired to send the RedHawks into the locker room trailing one at the intermission, 36-35.
- Miami opened the second half on a 12-5 flurry to claim a 47-41 lead by the 16:23 mark.
- The RedHawks extended their lead to eight by the 10:46 mark off a triple from Grant, 57-49. The Tigers, however, scored 12 unanswered to take a 61-57 lead by the 7:45 mark and did not look back.
NOTES:
- Beck saw his first action of the season after being sidelined with an injury. He notched six points, seven rebounds and a blocked shot in 15 minutes of action.
- Grant led all players with 20 points. Senior guard Mekhi Lairy and senior forward Dalonte Brown were the other RedHawks to score in double figures with 12 points apiece.
- Brown played in his 127th Miami game, breaking the program record for career games played. He made his 120th career start against the Tigers, extending the career record he broke for game started on Dec. 4.
