Five Miami players notched at least a 3.75 during the 2019 fall semester.
OXFORD, Ohio – Five members of the Miami University hockey team garnered national honors from the American Hockey Coaches Association for their high marks in the classroom during the fall.
Senior forward Karch Bachman (Wolcottville, Ind./Chicago (USHL)), freshman defenseman Jack Clement (Detroit, Mich./Des Moines (USHL)), senior defenseman Grant Frederic (St. Louis, Mo./Green Bay (USHL)), senior goaltender Ryan Larkin (Clarkston, Mich./Cedar Rapids (USHL)) and sophomore defenseman Andrew Sinard (Brentwood, Tenn./Aberdeen (NAHL)) were all named AHCA All-American Scholars on Tuesday.
This is the fourth year that the AHCA has recognized players for their success in the classroom. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic shortening the season and moving classes online in the spring, the AHCA adjusted its criteria to include all men's and women's players who played at least 40 percent of their team's games and achieved at least a 3.75 GPA during their fall 2019 term. A total of 321 men's and 253 women's Division I hockey players received the honor for the 2019-20 season.
Bachman tied for second on the Red & White with 31 points on 10 goals and 21 assists in his final season at Miami, earning National Collegiate Hockey Conference Senior Scholar Athlete honors following the campaign. Clement logged heavy minutes on the blue line as a freshman and led the team with 57 block shots while chipping in nine points (four goals, five assists). Frederic tied his career best with four points on two goals and four assists in 27 games. Larkin set the school's career saves record (3,199) and posted a .901 save percentage and three shutouts this season. Sinard dished out four assists for all of his points in 27 games on the blue line.
Miami's 2020-21 season is scheduled to begin with an exhibition against the USA National Team Development Program on Oct. 3.
