
Miami Falls Short Despite Dickerson’s Program Record

Senior guard Lauren Dickerson broke the program record for three-pointers made in Saturday’s game at Kent State.
KENT, Ohio – The Miami University women's basketball team (11-15, 4-10 Mid-American Conference) could not complete its comeback at Kent State on Saturday, falling by an 80-75 margin despite Lauren Dickerson breaking another program record.
Dickerson is the first player in program history to reach 300 three-pointers made as she now has 302 career triples after making five in her 29-point performance against the Flashes.

Savannah Kluesner recorded her 12th double-double of the season, finishing the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Her 12 double-doubles this season rank fourth in program history and her 24-career double-doubles are tied for third. Peyton Scott also reached double figures with 13 points in the contest.
Both teams had a slow start as the game was tied at six with less than two minutes to play in the first quarter. Dickerson had a pair of layups in the final minutes of the opening quarter but it was Kent State that held a 14-10 lead after 10 minutes. Both the RedHawks and Golden Flashes shot less than 30 percent from the floor.
After Dickerson opened the second quarter with a layup, KSU used 10 unanswered points to take a 24-12 lead with 6:37 to play in the first half. Miami continued to trail by double figures before a three-pointer from Dickerson, the RedHawks' first of the game, cut Kent State's lead to 27-19 with 3:48 remaining in the second quarter.
Dickerson's three-pointer sparked a 7-0 Miami run to cut Kent State's lead to 27-23 with 2:43 to play in the first half. The Golden Flashes responded with five-straight points and the teams traded free throws as the half winded down. The RedHawks trailed 37-28 going into the locker room after shooting 25.7 percent during the first half.
Dickerson opened the second-half scoring with a three-pointer before the teams traded baskets for much of the third quarter. Dickerson hit her third triple of the game with 1:34 remaining in the third quarter as she broke the program record for three-pointers, reaching 300 in her career.
Kluesner had the final four points of the third quarter for Miami as she reached double figures for the 23rd time this season. Miami trailed Kent State 60-50 going into the final 10 minutes of play.
The Golden Flashes opened the fourth quarter with a basket before five-straight points, including a three-pointer, from Scott cut the lead to 62-55 with 6:50 to play.
Dickerson reached the 20-point plateau with her fourth three-pointer of the game with 5:41 to play as Miami trailed by just four points, 64-60.
After a couple of baskets from the Golden Flashes, Miami scored nine unanswered points to tie the game at 69 with 2:45 to play. The game was tied again at 73 with 1:45 to play after a pair of jumpers from Dickerson. The RedHawks took its first lead of the game on a Scott jumper with 1:15 remaining but six free throws from the Golden Flashes down the stretch lifted Kent State to a 80-75 win.
The RedHawks remain on the road on Wednesday, traveling to Buffalo for a 7 p.m. tip. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
