Torpy Twins, Collier Set for National Championship Meet

The three RedHawks will compete in Austin this week.
OXFORD, Ohio - The 2019 Track and Field season will culminate this week at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas and three Miami RedHawks will be there to vie for national titles. Christopher Torpy (1500m), Sean Torpy (800m), and Danielle Collier (Javelin) will each compete over the course of the week.
This year's national meet is hosted by the University of Texas at Myers Stadium from June 5-8.Ā
Christopher Torpy will be the first RedHawk to step up to the starting line, running in the second heat of the 1500m prelims at 6:46 p.m. CT (7:46 Eastern) on Wednesday. This is the second straight year that Torpy has qualified for the national meet in the 1500, finishing 23rd and being named an Honorable Mention All-American. The junior out of Illinois punched his ticket to Austin with a 3:44.98 run in the NCAA East Region Preliminary, the fifth-best time of the quarterfinal round. The finals of the 1500 will be Friday evening at 7:41 p.m. (8:41 ET).
Running later on Wednesday evening will be Chris' twin brother Sean Torpy, taking part in the 800m. In addition to being the reigning Mid-American Conference champion in the event, Torpy will look to add a strong nationals performance to his resume after his 1:49.72 run in the East Region Preliminary granted him a slot in Austin. This is Sean's first appearance in the national meet. He will run in the second heat of the event's prelims, which is scheduled for 8:14 p.m. central time (9:14 ET) Wednesday. Should he advance, the final section at 8:44 p.m. (9:44 ET) Friday.
Miami's Danielle Collier is the third RedHawk qualifier, competing in her second NCAA Championship meet in the javelin. She finished 22nd in 2017 for Honorable Mention All-America honors. Collier's 50.05m (164-2) toss in the East Region Preliminary advanced her to the this week's national meet. The redshirt junior out of Hermitage, Penn. currently ranks 13th in the nation in the event and has spent the entire season inside the country's top 15. She will throw on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. Central (9:15 ET) in the finals of the women's javelin.
